I didn't know Tess Gerritsen had a blog. Got a feather? You could knock me over with it. Her most recent post is a dazzler. She doesn't title them, so let's call it How to be Classy and Unapologetic about Writing Romance.
Ditto to Jaye's comment. I refrained (barely) from adding her to my list, but I know exactly what she means. I started reading romances when I was 10 or 11, getting them out of the library. I read and enjoyed James A. Mitchner's The Source, but it was heavy going at 13. I would read a chapter, read a romance, read a chapter, etc. However, it's only in recent years that I've gotten over the "illicit affair" mentality and started recommending romances to friends, admitting I read them to my parents, and stopped doing the old duck and cover when reading in public. Here's to coming out :).
I need a lot of time to myself. Lots and lots and lots of it. I need to not have to talk to other people at all for many hours, every day. I need the freedom to write and nap and putter outside, and let the stories arrive. I need space to cook and listen to music, and most of all—read, read, read, read, read. I need a lot of reading time, and it feels like nothing, but it’s everything. -- Barbara O'Neal

Thanks for the link. Although I need another blog to read regularly, like I need another hole in my head. ;-)

I've never been ashamed of reading romance novels. Of course, I don't let people give me crap about writing them either. (evil grin)
ReplyDeleteTess was also interviewed in the June issue of Romantic Times Book Club about writing thrillers.
